BPA (bisphenol A) and BPS (bisphenol S) are chemicals used in the manufacturing of certain plastics and aluminum can linings, and they’re used as a coating on certain thermal receipt papers. BPA and BPS are believed to act as endocrine disruptors, substances that mimic human hormones. We encourage you to check with your retailer to determine if their receipts contain these substances. Alternative receipt papers are available. We applaud the decisions of a number of retailers to move away from BPA and BPS, and we encourage all retailers to do the same. As a precautionary measure, experts recommend washing your hands after handling receipts, storing receipts in a separate envelope, and avoiding the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer after handling receipts, since research has shown that these products increase the skin absorption of BPA.
As an alternative option, we encourage connecting to any of our digital retailers! Once your account is linked in the app there's no need to scan a paper receipt.
